Taiwan City Beer Glass: Hsinchu Edition
Hsinchu is famous for its strong northeast monsoon winds, the strongest in Taiwan, earning it the nickname "Windy City."
Located in the rain shadow area sheltered from the wind, it receives relatively little rainfall.
The combination of strong winds and less rain makes Hsinchu a major production area for rice noodles.
Additionally, over 85% of Hsinchu's population are Hakka people, making it a significant Hakka cultural center in Taiwan.
"Cheers!" is the way Taiwanese people connect with one another.
During Lunar New Year, we toast with family to wish each other happiness.
When eating hot dishes with friends, a toast confirms everyone’s well-being!
Through "cheers," we naturally draw closer to one another.
But do you know how our classic Taiwanese beer glass came to be?
Beer comes in many varieties worldwide, and so do beer glasses in various shapes and sizes.
In Taiwan, the most iconic size is the 143cc beer glass!
Although 143cc is not an official volume standard in Taiwan, it is the ideal size to preserve beer freshness.
Legend has it that during World War II, due to supply shortages, the government deliberately reduced glass sizes so that people would want more with each drink.
A 600ml bottle of Taiwan Beer can fill about four 143cc beer glasses.
"You drink your cheers, I'll drink mine" has become one of the warmest ways Taiwanese people interact.
Everyday life in Taiwan is filled with 143cc beer glasses, whether at picnics, family gatherings, or banquet tables.
We combine the classic 143cc beer glass with Taiwanese cultural symbols, recreating the rich and familiar flavors of Taiwan on the glass surface.
Designed and made in Taiwan.
Now, who would you like to cheers with?
