Chiayi, formerly known as Zhuluo, is the undisputed king of Taiwanese chicken rice.

It is also home to Taiwan’s sacred mountain, Alishan.

The people here are simple and the pace of life is leisurely.

When eating cold noodles, “white vinegar” is a must, and scooters often come head-to-head on narrow streets.

Next to the Chenghuang Temple, the East Market hides many authentic Chiayi delicacies.

The owner of Laihao’s mother famously tossed 11 sacred cups at Chenghuang Temple 37 years ago before deciding to give birth to the handsome boss.

“1122” is a mysterious number only known to Chiayi locals.

Although 143cc is not an official standard volume in Taiwan, it is the perfect size to preserve the freshness of beer.
It is said that during World War II, due to supply shortages, the Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation deliberately reduced the size of their glass cups to leave drinkers wanting more.

A 600ml bottle of Taiwan Beer can fill about four 143cc glasses.
“Cheers to you, I’ll drink as I please” has become the warmest way Taiwanese people connect with each other.
