「台客袋，原名加志（台羅：ka-tsì，音似「ㄍㄚ ㄐㄧ」），又稱加薦仔、茭薦仔、茄芷袋、復古袋，是台灣的一種有傳統風味的手提包，上邊比下邊略闊，可作書包、文件包或手挽包使用。名稱源於日語「かぎ編み (kagiami)」，意指其編織的手法。茄芷袋相傳起源於臺南市後壁區菁寮里，最初由蘭草手工編織而成，被稱為草袋仔，隨著台灣的工業化，後來改為使用尼龍網布製作的半透明手挽袋。」
一直以來，對於這個提袋到底該如何被稱呼，說法不一。目前台灣的政府單位及民間機構，大部分都以「茄芷袋」作為主要名稱。然而，網路上也曾有過這樣子的討論，有人提出「葭苴」(jiā-jǔ)才應該是正確的名字。因為「葭」字代表初生的蘆葦，「苴」字則代表古時襯在鞋裡的草墊，這兩個字也才與最原始製作茄芷袋的原料—蘭草，有所關聯。而「茄芷袋」不過是取它的諧音，方便閱讀與書寫。
在國外，日本人稱茄芷袋為「漁師バッグ」，意思是漁夫使用的袋子。據說是因為茄芷袋的材質，與漁夫使用的網子相似，故有此稱；而韓國人目前稱它為「대만 전통 가방」，為台灣傳統袋子的意思；英文則是取台語的發音，以「KA-TSI」為名。然而，不管它的名稱是什麼，茄芷袋作為一個台灣人的常民物件，在我們的日常生活中一直扮演著一個低調樸實的角色。

"The Taiker Bag, originally named Ka-Tsi (台羅: ka-tsì), also known as ‘Retro Bag,’ is a traditional Taiwanese hand-held bag. Slightly wider at the top than the bottom, it can be used as a book bag, document bag, or handbag. The name derives from the Japanese term ‘かぎ編み (kagiami),’ which refers to the crocheting technique. Originating from Jingliao Village in Houbi District, Tainan City, the Ka-Tsi bag was initially woven from lan grass and was called a grass bag. With Taiwan's industrialization, the bag evolved into a semi-transparent hand-held bag made from nylon mesh."
The naming of this bag has long been debated. Today, most Taiwanese government entities and organizations refer to it as "Ka-Tsi Bag." However, some online discussions suggest that "葭苴" (jiā-jǔ) might be the correct term. "葭" represents young reeds, and "苴" refers to a traditional grass mat placed inside shoes, both relating closely to the original lan grass material. "Ka-Tsi" was chosen for its phonetic similarity, making it easier to read and write.
Internationally, the bag is called "漁師バッグ" (Fisherman’s Bag) in Japan, due to its resemblance to fishing nets. In Korea, it is referred to as "대만 전통 가방" (Taiwanese Traditional Bag), while in English, it’s known as "Ka-Tsi," borrowing from the Taiwanese pronunciation. Regardless of the name, the Ka-Tsi bag has remained a humble and practical item in Taiwanese daily life.
Originating from Tainan’s Houbi district, the Nomi Naku Village gained fame through the documentary "Nomi Naku." The Ka-Tsi Granny Workshop revitalized the traditional blue, red, and green Ka-Tsi bags with local cultural elements, enhancing community cultural value.
The workshop now produces various Ka-Tsi-patterned items, including coin pouches, eco-friendly bottle bags, and lunch bags. Made from lightweight yet durable materials, these products remind us of the significance of traditional wisdom. In 2018, Tainan City Government chose Ka-Tsi Granny Workshop's bags as gifts for National Day, promoting their cultural heritage.
